Challenging tunnel job Järna - Flemminsberg

The contract of capacity increase and maintenance measures for Flemmingsberg-Järna consists mostly of works inside a total of four railroadtunnel systems.

The tunnels are mainly built as rocktunnels (without shotcrete and/or system bolting) with intermittent reinforcement arches made of cast-in-place concrete with a few sporadic bolts. The weft vaults were also cast-in-place concrete.

The reinforcement arches width varies between 1-10 m. but mostly consists of a width of 2-4 m. There are a total of approximatly 80 vaults and weft vaults in the four tunnelsystems. The reinforcement vaults are believed to have been placed in areas of rock of lower quality. All of the vaults require securing, but only the ones that interfer with the load profile of the trains needs to be demolitioned.

The measures consists mostly of demolition of concrete arches dating back to the late 19th- early 20th century and lifetime increasing measures such as shot-concrete, bolting, cracking and such. The tunnels are based in the railway system and the closures will consist of 5x2 weeks continous closures each year starting 2023 and ending in 2026. The closures will be during the summer each year and will be in a row.

Trafikverket will conduct a RFI in August and for those of you who are interested in this, contact Project Managers Johan Ädling; johan.adling@trafikverket.se orJacob Olofsson; Jacob.olofsson@trafikverket.se
