Roberto Maiorana. The new Director-General of the Swedish Transport Administration.

Roberto Maiorana new Director-General

Roberto Maiorana took over as Director-General of the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) on March 1, 2022.

The motivation from Minister of Infrastructure, Thomas Eneroth, highlighted Robert’s broad experience from large complex organizations and his ability to build good relationships both externally and internally. Roberto Maiorana has previously been active as Head of Trafikverket’ s business area Traffic Management.

“I want to thank the government for its trust,” Roberto said in a comment on the appointment. I look forward to the assignment to lead Trafikverket.

There is a lot of competence and good ability in Trafikverket. We have an important task to continue to develop communications opportunities throughout the country.

The transport sector is of great importance for growth and contributes to us achieving our environmental and climate goals. We will do this in close dialogue with municipalities and regions, which I believe is a success factor, says Roberto.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine

Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the EU has decided to impose sanctions on Russia.

The Swedish Transport Administration has established a national crisis management to handle any impact on the transport system. We follow developments closely to be able to handle the situations that may arise linked to, among other things, material supply and fuel prices. As a supplier, you should continuously take part in and live up to the sanctions that have been introduced and ensure that these are followed at the supplier level.

Together, and focus on upcoming business opportunities.

Regional Supplier Days will be held this autumn

Do not miss them - this year we will for the first time in a long time get to meet physically. Increased cost for fuel

During the spring, the Swedish Transport Administration's suppliers were hit by large cost increases for fuel. The Swedish Transport Administration has now decided how this will be handled.

The Swedish Transport Administration has decided to regulate fuel costs primarily in existing contracts where specific regulation does not exist. The regulation will take place from January 2022. The decision may be revoked if the conditions change.

We will return shortly on how you, who are covered by the decision, should be able to apply for compensation.

Renewed business strategy for contracts and technical consultants

We at the Swedish Transport Administration continue to develop our business strategy. We have now renewed the strategy with a focus on technical consulting services in planning and design as well as contract work.

Developing business strategy in dialoge with suppliers

New main lines develop business strategy in dialogue with suppliers

The New Mainlines programme will, in dialogue with suppliers, develop a new business strategy to link large contracts to the expansion of the new mainlines in Sweden.

New Mainlines is a megaproject that will need resources and competences on a scale not currently available on the Swedish market. Over the next 20 years, new mainlines will have a turnover of SEK 15 billion per year. To achieve this turnover, the programme foresees the need for long term contracts in the order of 5-15 billion over 10 years. A project is now underway as part of the New Main Lines programme, to discuss with suppliers the business strategy of creating really large contracts in appropriate areas.

- Some of the major challenges with the new mainlines are the size, the long construction time and ensuring our resource availability. Knowledge, transparency and dialogue are important elements on the way forward and we need to come up with a business plan that we and our suppliers believe in, says Anders Karlsson, who manages the project.

Through large contracts, the New Mainlines programme hopes to have better conditions to optimise design and production and find innovative and sustainable solutions together with suppliers, for example in terms of technical solutions, production methods and industrialisation opportunities. In large contracts, they also want to see an increased focus on cost management, the distribution of responsibilities and tasks between the client organisation and suppliers.

The project plans to contact both the Swedish and international markets. During the spring, the inputs from the supplier dialogues will be analysed and the content of the strategy will be concretized and fine-tuned. By August, the new business strategy will be ready, which will form the basis for production and construction planning and contracting for the New Mainlines.
